Overall Sustainability Score: Very Good.
Lipstick Formula: Sustainability Scorecard
Waxes: VERY GOOD.
Sustainable ingredients, plant-based or beeswax (byproduct that doesn’t harm bees by being used)
Pastes: GOOD.
Nourishing, plant-based ingredients – but the agricultural sustainability could be
improved for ingredients like cocoa butter and shea butter
Oils: EXCELLENT.
Sunflower oil, jojoba oil and castor oil are all examples of oils that are deeply nourishing and also extremely sustainable agriculturally
Pigments: NEEDS IMPROVEMENT.
Our pigments meet industry standards and are used by most respected clean beauty brands.
Like many respected clean beauty brands we use pigments that are approved for use in the EU and the US, but do not meet our goals for sustainability. These include Red 6, Red 7, Yellow 5, Red 33, Blue 1, Red 27. These pigments currently represent less than 5% of our total formulation, and while our goal is to reduce it even further, it’s been very challenging to find alternative ingredients that offer the same great color range.
